State Licensing and Credit Guide

Where Our Courses May Count for PI Continuing Education

We are Texas DPS Continuing Education School No. Y00105, our only current state-specific continuing education school authorization. If you plan to use one of our courses outside Texas, obtain written confirmation from your regulator before enrolling for renewal credit.

We reviewed the regulatory sources and our approval records on July 26, 2026.

Answer First

We are authorized in Texas as Continuing Education School No. Y00105.

Texas: We are Texas DPS Continuing Education School No. Y00105. Your selected course must still match your license type, required subject category, completion period, and current Texas DPS rules.

Outside Texas: We do not claim automatic state renewal acceptance. Louisiana requires its own board course. We do not currently hold approval from New Mexico, South Carolina, or Oklahoma. Florida's current Class C PI renewal materials do not list a general continuing education-hour requirement.

Current Status

State-by-state credit position

These labels show where we currently hold written state approval and where you need confirmation from your licensing agency.

State PI Institute status What you should do
Texas Our Texas authorization
Texas DPS Continuing Education School No. Y00105.
Match the course topic and hours to the current requirement for your license. Verify the school and your renewal path through Texas DPS and TOPS.
Louisiana Does not replace required board course
LSBPIE directs licensees to its own designed and approved online renewal course.
Complete the LSBPIE course for Louisiana renewal. Treat our courses as professional development unless the board gives you written direction otherwise.
South Carolina Approval not confirmed
We were not listed on SLED's posted approved-provider list during this review.
SLED says students are responsible for ensuring a program is approved before attending. Obtain written SLED approval before purchase.
Oklahoma Approval not confirmed
CLEET requires PI renewal education from an approved source; we do not currently hold CLEET approval.
Ask CLEET whether the specific course and provider will count before enrolling for renewal credit.
New Mexico Approval not confirmed
New Mexico requires an approved source; we do not currently hold blanket New Mexico approval.
Confirm the specific course with NMRLD before purchase. A completion certificate can document training but does not guarantee approval.
Florida No general Class C PI CE claim
Current FDACS Class C renewal materials reviewed do not list a general PI continuing education-hour requirement.
Use our training for professional development, not claimed Florida renewal credit. Separate credentials, including firearm licenses, may have different training rules.
All Other States

We do not currently hold state-specific approval in these jurisdictions

We do not represent our courses as automatically accepted for private investigator license renewal in the following states. This means unconfirmed, not necessarily rejected. Ask your licensing authority to confirm our provider name, course title, delivery method, topic, and hours in writing before enrolling for state credit.

Alabama Alaska Arizona Arkansas California Colorado Connecticut Delaware Georgia Hawaii Idaho Illinois Indiana Iowa Kansas Kentucky Maine Maryland Massachusetts Michigan Minnesota Mississippi Missouri Montana Nebraska Nevada New Hampshire New Jersey New York North Carolina North Dakota Ohio Oregon Pennsylvania Rhode Island South Dakota Tennessee Utah Vermont Virginia Washington West Virginia Wisconsin Wyoming

District of Columbia: We do not currently hold or claim state-specific approval.

Important Distinction

A completion certificate is not automatic state credit.

  1. Certificate documentation proves that we issued a completion record for the named student, course, and hours.
  2. State CE acceptance means your regulator accepts the provider, course, topic, format, hours, and completion date for your license.
  3. Professional development can be useful in any state but may not satisfy a licensing or renewal requirement.
Before You Buy

How to verify a course for your license

  1. Open your state regulator's current private investigator renewal guidance.
  2. Confirm your license type, renewal period, total hours, and required subjects.
  3. Give your regulator our provider name, Texas school number if relevant, course title, delivery method, and certificate hours.
  4. Keep the regulator's written answer with your completion certificate and renewal records.

Frequently Asked Questions

State licensing and credit questions

In which states is PI Institute licensed or authorized as a continuing education school?

We are authorized in Texas as Texas DPS Continuing Education School No. Y00105. Texas is the only state where we currently hold state-specific continuing education school authorization.

Which states accept PI Institute continuing education credit?

Texas is the only state where we currently hold state-specific continuing education school authorization. Even in Texas, whether a course counts depends on your license type, required subject, course content, completion date, and current Texas DPS rules. We do not claim automatic acceptance outside Texas.

Which states do not accept PI Institute credit?

Louisiana requires its own LSBPIE-designed and approved online renewal course, so our courses do not replace it. No other state has given us a written rejection, but we also do not currently hold written approval from the states marked unconfirmed. Obtain written confirmation from your regulator before relying on one of our courses outside Texas.

Does a PI Institute completion certificate guarantee state renewal credit?

No. We issue a certificate to document completed training. A certificate alone does not prove that your regulator accepts the provider, topic, delivery method, or hours for your license renewal.

Can I take a PI Institute course for professional development in any state?

Yes. You can take our online courses for professional development nationwide. Professional development is not the same as state-approved continuing education credit.

Need written course details?

Ask before relying on a course for state renewal.

Our support team can provide the course title, delivery method, instructor, and certificate hours for your regulator review.
